Using a riptide trident while jumping doesn't consume its durability

The bug:

You can use a riptide trident without reducing its durability.

How to reproduce:

  1. Enchant a trident with any level of Riptide, I used Riptide 3

  2. Stand in a waterlogged bottom slab (it is easiest to place 4 bottom slabs around the waterlogged one to stop the water from flowing, but this still works in flowing water)

  3. Hold down right click to fully pull back the trident

  4. Jump and immediately release right click

Result:

The trident does not lose durability, show particles, or make a sound/subtitle, but you can still fly with it.

Notes:

  • This works ever since 1.13

  • This has to be timed almost perfectly to work

  • You can travel just as far as a normal trident throw

I was not able to reproduce this (testing in 23w05a), but since the video shows the reporter getting a large boost from the trident without the durability decreasing or the "Trident zooms" subtitle appearing, I will mark this report as plausible. This report seems very similar to MC-249911, but it must be a different issue because the video on this report shows the reporter achieving the boost without switching the trident to the off-hand.

Could you please attach a second video that shows you demonstrating the bug, but this time have the F3 screen open?

You need to throw the riptide trident 1gt(0.05s) after you jump to achieve it.

Fun Fact, aiming up will send you further than a regular riptide boost.
