This is expected behavior.
A sculk sensor's output to redstone dust directly is based on how close the sound even is to the sensor, whereas with comparators the signal strength is dependant on what kind of sound is made. As for the signal traveling into the block, I was unable to achieve any unexpected behavior with that.
