I bought the game so I could play with my little brother. A few months ago, every time we tried to join the other's LAN servers, it gave a message saying failed to connect. We tried switching who was hosting a server, didn't help. It doesn't work on Vanilla, Volts or Hexxit. Very frustrating.

The issue is on your side. Check your router/firewall settings. For technical support please use the Mojang Support Center.
I'm having the same issue here.
My girlfriend bought the game so we could play together in LAN mode, but we keep having this type of issue.
She has a MacBook Pro, and I have a Win8 Desktop PC. She creates the server, but sometimes, I cant log in (connection timed out)
this is really annoying since we both bought the game so we could play it together...
And please, don't tell your costumers that the issue is on their side... I can play any other game (LAN mode) with my girlfriend!
I have found a workaround for this: I restarted my router and it works. But still, this is a workaround... It shouldn't be this way?!
Please Minecraft crew, fix this! Its really annoying to have to restart my router every time I want to play a LAN mode Minecraft!
P.S- Great game! 😃
