Cat teleports long distances to follow me, but won't teleport back to base

In Old Lady's Java World (originally 'Brave New World') my cat has repeatedly teleported to follow me great distances, even when I make her sit.  For example, she went from home base 212 67 -165 to (stronghold) 1196 -8 1180. When I teleported back to base she didn't follow me back, and the 'teleport entity' commands I've found online don't seem to work on her. I tried to see if she would follow me through the End Portal so we could go back to base via the End exit, but she wouldn't follow. I ended up having her follow me as I walked back to base through the Overworld.

I don't have any other pets but the cat in Old Lady's Java World. In my current Bedrock/Switch and Bedrock/PC worlds making the pets sit before I teleport does seem to work and they haven't been following.
