Upon start up of the game, Minecraft is stuck in a view looking at the sky. When I move the mouse around, it only spins in place looking straight up at the sky continuously. There is no combination of moves/keys that "rights" the view - it continues to ONLY look at the sky.

I will apologize in advance because I'm such a newbie, but before I do this would you mind explaining to me what exactaly is a "debug crash?"
When you press F3 and C at the same time, the game will manually force itself to crash with a crash report. Attach that report (located in your .minecraft folder under "crash-reports") to the ticket. It's so that we can check your jar signature or if there are other issues.
Press f8 while in game... Sounds like you might have pressed it at some point. Its something like "smooth controls" which if your mouse sensativity is set high will my everything spin and make you look up at the sky.
IT WORKED! Let me know what you see in the report and what I might be able to do to get it to stop "staring" at the sky. Thanks again.
Your Java version is ancient! Please update your Java to the latest version: http://www.java.com/en/download/ .
And please update your graphics card drivers following these instructions: Updating Graphics Card Drivers.
Do not rely on automatic searches for driver updates.
Do not use Windows Update or Device Manager - Microsoft doesn't install OpenGL, they promote DirectX.
If you know the brand and type of your graphics card, go to the links provided above and search manually for the most recent driver for your card. The automatic detection tools of the card manufacturers is not recommended.
If that all won't help, please use the Mojang Support Center.
Please force a debug crash with F3+C
