enable-status in server.properties still sends motd

When hosting a server using the server.jar and disabling enable-status, the users can still see parts of the MOTD.
The server version text is displayed (1.20.4) and when hovering over the ping icon it states
Incompatible version!
The full motd from the server.properties file however, is sent.
The server-icon.png (if present) is not sent.
