FPS Drop in Previously Explored Areas

Description: In the latest version of Minecraft, specifically 1.20.6, there is a noticeable FPS drop or lag spike when moving around in previously explored areas, such as your base or spawn chunks. This issue occurs regardless of whether you are transitioning from one chunk to another.

How to Reproduce:

  • Create a new world in version 1.20.6 or update an existing world with previously explored areas.

  • Move around or stand still for a few minutes in any area of the world.

  • Notice the FPS drops when moving to different chunks or when initially loading new chunks.

We do not have enough information to find the cause of this issue.

While the lag occurs, please press F3 + L once, then wait a short moment until profiling has finished.
Afterwards, please attach the generated .zip file containing the profiling results here. The file path is shown in chat; the file can be found in [minecraft/debug/profiling/<DATE>.zip|https://minecrafthopper.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder/].

If you are playing on a server please additionally run the command /perf start to create a profiling report for the server. In case you do not have the permission to run this command, make sure that you're a server operator.
Once profiling has finished, please attach the generated .zip file from debug/profiling/<DATE>.zip of the server folder.

This issue is being temporarily resolved as Awaiting Response. Once the requested information has been delivered, the report will be reopened automatically.

I have uploaded a file that tries to reproduce the FPS drop issue, both in a new map and an old one.

I actually can confirm this, it seems like a slight fps drop does occur in previously explored areas as you mentioned.
