Redstone "remembers" its turning preference

With the experimental dust changes, dust going along a left/right split is intended to choose its direction randomly, but in the attached video, you can see that when you have multiple splits in the dust, the result will always be internally consistent (if the dust preferred left on the first split, it will do so again on the second split), and vice versa.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Import and enter the attached world:

  1. Activate the pistons multiple times

Observed result:
Both pairs of pistons always activate the same way.

Expected result:
Both pairs of pistons always activate randomly.

Thank you for your report!
However, this issue is Working as Intended.

The report you have submitted is working as intended: see the 24w33a changelog.

  • When two wires have the same distance to the power source, which of them causes updates first is picked at random

    • The random choice is made once for the entire line of wire, to limit the amount of possible outcomes

    • This means, when powering a line of wire from the side, it randomly chooses one of two possible update orders

    • The advantage of having few possible update orders is that the results are more predictable

Please note, that mechanics of the game may change between updates.
Things such as graphics, sounds, world creation, biomes, redstone, villagers, and animals may not work the same in current versions.
