A zombie pigman wandered into my base so naturally I decided to keep him and called him Zisteau.
Now, here's the issue. When I look at Zisteau, especially when standing close to him, the FPS begins to drop sharply.
Observing the pie chart on the debug screen (shift+F3), it is clear that something is wrong. The render portion grows larger and larger the longer I look at him. As soon as I move my cursor away, everything goes back to normal.
I will try and record a video of this happening soon.

That issue and all of its duplicates are about enchanted items. This is about name-tagged mobs. I fail to see how this is a duplicate.
Probably a general rendering issue.
Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while ingame and attach the crash report ([minecraft|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt
) here.
Yeah, I suppose both issues could be stemming from the same buggy routine. On it!
It may be difficult to do while keeping my cursor on the mob, as my frames rapidly descend towards zero but I shall try.
EDIT: FYI, the issue is still apparent on vanilla 1.6.2. I already thought of that, I don't think Optifine is to blame here.

I'm on Mac OS X.... it says that in the environment box. I can imagine you get a lot of bogus issues and you have to assume everyone is a moron but cut me some slack....
I'll grab the vanilla crash report too.
