Ender pearls cannot be thrown in creative. This is annoying as you can trap yourself in a very unstable redstone contraption and not be able to get out without MCEdit or blowing the earth up. Also, say you're on a plot-based server and you want to stay in the same plot but someone traps you. In survival, enderpearls work.
