Entity's shadows aren't shown on most transparent blocks

Any shadows cast by entities (mobs, players, items) will not show up on many of the transparent blocks, even if the blocks have full top hitboxes.
List of effected blocks:
all Slabs, all Stairs, Glass, Trapdoor, both Pistons extended or not.
list of strangly exempt blocks:
all Leaves, Spawner, Ice
