I've been experiencing this since the Tricky Trials update, and I've only been able to combat it until now. I've been having a bug where the Minecraft Java application doesn't respond for a minute, and then, it freezes on the screen it was on, then when I alt tab to another tab, and then go back, it shows me the Mojang loading screen, while flashing and flickering, which hurts my eyes a little. This even happens on Vanilla minecraft, and I usually use performance modpacks, like Simply Optimized and since I mostly play anarchy servers, I use clients. But like I said, it happens on vanilla minecraft. During the flashing mojang screen, I can still hear things in the background, and I can interact with menus, But I can't see anything. It's really getting annoying and I hope I can get it fixed. I have the latest drivers for my graphics, and I've allocated up to 4G ram. I'll put my specs below. I am sharing this with other players as well to help others with the same problem as me.

If you are on Windows, you can use Windows+Alt+R to open a built-in app for recording game footage.
If you are on Mac (Mojave or later), you can use Shift+Command+5 to open a built-in app for recording your screen.
In case you don't have a program to record videos, we recommend using the free recording software OBS.

This happens to me when I load too many mods causing the same and sometimes ending in a crash. Try reducing the no of mods you use and maybe use modpacks as they are designed to hold many mods whilst avoiding problems.
If you have the means you can upgrade your device as it might be performance related.
