Mushrooms generated on fallen trees break when updated

Red and brown mushrooms require a light level of 13 or below in order to be placed and survive on most blocks; mycelium, podzol, and both types of nylium however allow mushrooms to be placed on them at any light level.
Mushrooms can generate as part of fallen trees, where they are placed on logs. They are usually found under direct access to skylight, thus not abiding by the usual placement rules. This leads to unexpected behavior, such as mushrooms breaking when a block is placed next to them (the mushroom is “updated” and realizes it’s placed in an invalid location, and thus breaks). Players are also unable to replicate these features as they can’t freely place mushrooms on logs as the world generator does.

How to reproduce

  • Find a naturally generated fallen tree with a mushroom on it (not all fallen trees generate mushrooms).

    • Seed: -9012364720677911095

    • Coordinates: 4 87 -12

  • Place a block next to the mushroom.

Expected behavior

  • The mushroom doesn’t break and remains placed on the log.

Observed behavior

  • The mushroom breaks.

Suggested fix

  • Allow red and brown mushrooms to be placed on logs at any light level, similar to mycelium, podzol and nylium. This will prevent mushrooms on fallen trees from breaking when a block is placed next to them.

As this has been closed by a moderator, can I ask for any source for this being intentional behavior? It’s clear to me that mushrooms generating on logs is intentional, but the fact the game doesn’t actually support this placement and causes the mushrooms to break when updated is very obviously not intentional behavior.

The bug report is about mushrooms breaking due to them being unsupported, not about them generating in the first place.
