Cannot stack slabs of different materials to form a full block

What happens:

When trying to place one slab on top of another to create a full block, it only works if both slabs are made of the same material. For example, placing a spruce slab on top of an oak slab doesn't combine them into a full block. Instead, the placement is either blocked or treated as a separate block above. This limits building flexibility even though slabs of different types visually align.

What I expected to happen:

It should be possible to stack slabs of different materials (e.g. oak + spruce, stone + brick) to form a complete block. This would allow more creative freedom in building.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Place a slab on the ground (e.g. stone slab).

  2. Try placing a different type of slab on top (e.g. oak slab).

  3. The game does not allow combining them into a full block.

Environment

Java Edition (latest version as of April 2025), Windows 11, Multiplayer server, Survival mode, no mods or resource packs used.
