All 28 texture files associated with the dried ghast are mostly composed of pixels that go entirely unused by the actual models. This is a bad thing: it bloats file size, and causes confusion for resource pack creators as it is unclear what areas should actually be retextured. Most blocks in the game with custom non-cuboid models, such as end rods, lanterns and cocoa pods, correctly do not include any pixels in areas that are not used in-game.
The tentacles textures are the worst offender - there are areas allocated for two tentacles that are entirely absent from the model. This is an obvious point of confusion which should be avoided.
Fixed versions of all of these textures are attached - I give Mojang full permission and encouragement to replace the existing textures with these files to completely fix this problem. Among the deleted pixels are the 12 used for faces only visible by clipping inside of the model (MC-296951) - these faces should be removed from the model outright to reduce rendering lag and file sizes.
