for some reason when I threw my fire resistance potion instead of lasting 8 minutes it started at 6 minutes and 21 seconds but I threw it on the air

In 1.21.5, the duration of an effect granted by a splash potion is based on the distance between the potion’s impact point and the center of the entity. In 25w18a (a 1.21.6 snapshot) this was changed so that the duration is based upon the closest point of the entity’s hitbox to the impact point, meaning once 1.21.6 rolls out it will be possible to throw a splash potion straight down to receive the full duration. Until then, throw your potions straight up, or straight at a block you are pressed against, to receive the maximum possible duration, or simply use normal potions instead.
This report will be resolved as invalid since the described behavior is intended in 1.21.5.
