In the “standard” item sorter arrangement where there’s a (covered) horizontal line of hoppers feeding into 2-high hopper columns below, both of those hoppers below still look for item entities on top of them, meaning they are doing an expensive (and unnecessary) check. If hoppers were treated as “full blocks” for the purpose of skipping this check, it could be another performance win for this semi-common use case.
