Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new World in Minecraft 13w36b
2. Fly over the World
3. In Extreme Hills are often Lava flows
In xxxxxHills- Bioms are Lava flows often, too
In flat biomes like savanna, desert and plains are often Lava ponds

I've noticed quite bit of surface lava in the new release, but at the same time, I never travelled as far as I have in this current snap shot. It's possible the number is the same and we are just noticing it more since we're all exploring more for the new biomes.
Cannot confirm. Not more or less lava as in 1.6.2
