I don't know if this is supposed to be a normal thing now or not...but it seems kind of strange.
I installed the new server and MC version with no problem, but when I started looking around on my map, I found these areas here and there in a new set of chunks that almost look like some one took a knife and sliced open a cross section of land. They are completely flat faces of rock under dirt, with ocean right next to them.
Also, I have yet to be able to locate a single mesa over several different maps.

We strongly recommend that you don’t run the snapshots on an existing world if you want your landscape to stay pretty. You’ll get silly chunk borders and they don’t look pretty at all. I’d even go as far as to call them ugly.
Well, this has happened on a pre-existing map, as well as a new map, and I've seen some on my new solo world as well.

If that happens on a new map, please provide seed and coordinates.
Probably you're seeing MC-315 you use the same name of the world.
