Buried treasure maps not working

I found a shipwreck in an giant ocean with a few islands, so I looted the shipwreck and used it's buried treasure map, but it just turned into a normal map and showed the area around me. This happened in all of the shipwrecks I found, so later I checked chunk base with my seed, and found out that the next buried treasure is thousands of block away.
