I have two double chess one stacked on another so that I have a double chest at ground level, directly on top of it is another double chest. The copper Gollum will not search the double chess that are below. Note that my storage system is in a grid pattern with a two block gap between these “units” of double chests. I noticed that they will search double chests that only have a single chest stacked on top.
Environment
Underground about five blocks in a house with a chest storage system in a grid pattern consisting of perhaps 30 chests.

Copper golems dont search chests, they search and take things from copper chests and put them into chests that have the same items. If the bottom chests don’t have anything in them while the top chests do, copper golems will only sort items into the top chests.
