My skin shows up as Alex when I try to change it in 1.12.2

I try to change my skin when I play in 1.12.2 but it instead shows up as alex. I can’t even change it to anything else since it doesn’t show up as the skin I want. I tried restarting my PC, but it still didn’t work.
