When the torch interacted with the leash on the fence, the torch disappeared

When I tried to attach the leash to the fence, the torch in my hand disappeared. It seemed to land on the block the leash was attached to and vanished. As it turns out, any placeable items disappear. Later, by clicking on the item's location in your inventory, it appears.
