So I don't know if this is a bug or not, but when you rename an item like a block or Redstone torch that can be placed and broken again, if you place it down, break it, and pick it up, it undoes the rename.

However, this issue is Working As Intended.
The report you have submitted is working as intended: Only specific blocks such as Furnace save their custom name.
Please note, that mechanics of the game may change between updates.
Things such as graphics, sounds, world creation, biomes, Redstone, villagers, and animals may not work the same in current versions.
