Using an automatic pumpkin/melon farm causes the stems of the pumpkins to grow but not go back to normal when the pumpkin is broken. Possibly because the piston to break the pumpkin activates instantly after the pumpkin is grown. A manual pumpkin farm works fine in this regard.
