Phantom block, missing item drop and persistent breaking texture when tool is dropped while breaking a block (Java 1.21)
Description
When breaking a block and dropping the tool mid-break, the block can visually remain as a phantom block for several seconds.
In some cases, the block’s item drop is permanently lost. Additionally, the block-breaking texture (crack overlay) can persist and appear on newly placed blocks in the same position.
This issue occurs in singleplayer and is not fixed by F3+T, indicating it is not a simple client-side visual glitch.
⚠ This is NOT a duplication bug. This issue causes permanent item loss.
Steps to Reproduce
Create a new singleplayer world (Java Edition 1.21)
Make sure no mods or resource packs are installed
Take a pickaxe
Start breaking a cobblestone block
While breaking the block, drop the pickaxe (press Q)
Allow the block to finish breaking
Observed Result
A phantom block remains in place for several seconds
If the pickaxe is not picked up, the item drop never appears and is permanently lost
If the pickaxe is picked up, the phantom block disappears immediately and the item drops
After the phantom block disappears, placing a new block in the same position can cause the block-breaking texture (crack overlay) to remain visible on the newly placed block
Reloading resources with F3 + T does NOT fix the phantom block or the breaking texture
Expected Result
The block should disappear immediately after being broken
The correct item drop should always appear
No phantom blocks should remain
Block-breaking textures should reset correctly
F3 + T should clear any purely visual issues
