Bonemeal ejected from an upward facing dispenser not dispensing in any way

I tried to build a flower farm which utilizes bonemeal dispenser ejection from underneath the dirt surface and instead of dispensing as usual in other orientations; when upward in any way (in this case, dirt right above the dispenser), nothing comes out. Bonemeal is not even consumed in this bug after the dispenser was shut off during when I checked if any of it was consumed.
Furthermore, as seen earlier and later; when I attempted to replicate it with another dispenser facing upwards with no obstruction, it did not eject the bonemeal into the world but any other items (eg dirt etc) works as intended.

During all events however as listed here, the ejection smoke of the dispenser during activation does appear as intended.
