Entities (including players, dropped items, and other creatures) display a higher brightness on their surfaces when at high light levels (brighter than the surrounding environment), and the lighting changes on the surfaces of the entities appear somewhat abrupt (no gradual transition between extremely bright and extremely dark). Just like a desk lamp that only has an on/off switch.

I have the same issue in 26.1-snapshot5.
As shown in the picture, the box is already lit up before the light reaches this place.

That ticket has already been resolved as Fixed. Please check the Fix Version/s field of that ticket to see in which version this behavior was or will be fixed.
