Movement interuppted after ~1s

When holding down any movement key the movement stops after about a second, but the stutters through every couple of seconds. This happens every single time I try to just move normally.

If I jump as I start holding down W, I am able to move normally until I let go of W.

I’ve had this issue for about a month, but it is reproduced in earlier versions of Java Edition.

My initial guesses are that this is either a Java compatibility issue, or an issue with the newest version of Ubuntu.
