Short description of the issue
When using /item to replace the player.cursor slot while the player is in creative mode the items are duplicated when the stack is placed in the inventory on the server-side.
Steps to reproduce the issue
Enter creative mode
gamemode creativeRun the command
item replace entity @s player.cursor with stone 64Open your inventory
Place the stack of items on your cursor into your inventory
Expected result
One stack of items where you placed them.
Actual result
Two stacks of items, one where you placed them, and one in the next available slot.

Yes I know the cause is similar to MC-270503 (the creative client being trusted implicitly), but the way the bug presents itself is very differnent and more significant.

After consideration, the issue is being closed as Won't Fix.
Please note that this is not the same as Working as Intended, as this bug report correctly describes behavior in the game that might not be the intended or desirable behavior, but it will not be fixed right now. Sometimes, this is because the issue reported is minor and/or impossible to change without large architectural changes to the code base.
