After the update of 1.4.4, I logged into my survival world and suddenly noticed that the map wasn't updating. I tried logging off and logging back on, but it still did not operate. After that, I forced updated and still did not work properly. Thank you for reading.

Have you tried right clicking with the map in you hand?

MisterSanderson

This happened to me after a long travel in the game. When I returned and looked to the wall, one map was blanked.

I clicked "save and return the main menu" and then reopened the world. The map was loaded as it was before the blankening.

This has also occurred for me in my vanilla SMP server, currently running 1.4.5 with all 1.4.5 clients. The map that will not update (Map #3) happened to be the only map in an item frame at the time of update from 1.4.3 to 1.4.4 and 1.4.5. Screenshot attached is of the map with two item frame markers (green arrows) that have been removed; there are no copies of this map in an item frame, yet the markers still remain and the white player marker is not present.

Map in hand is the entire stack of copies in the world of Map #3. However, you can see that it has not updated since removal of the item frames, and it does not show the player location. The player location would have been very close to the center of this map item.

Can partly.confirm.
1.4.5 CSP: While trying to reproduce another bug, I got two "not-updating" maps, but after quitting the game and reentering the map got updated.
But I don't have a definite procedure for reproducing.
Remark: In the "not-updating" map there are two player icons: The arrow at the correct position and the "out of range"-dot at the map-creation position

I was having this problem in 1.4.6 my maps suddenly did not work from the previous version. This was due to the 'dimension' value in the map data having changed from integer to byte type. Using NBTexplorer I was able to change the type of these variables and my maps became useful again.

I'm not certain which version of Minecraft changed these values. I will note that I had map problems before but quitting the game and starting it again fixed them before but not this time.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

I cannot replicate this bug in a new world in Minecraft 1.5

I have similar problem in vanilla Minecraft v1.5.2.
I crafted and opened new map - called "Original" and explored some terrain with this map.
Next I have zoomed out my "Original" - only one zoom level.
Next I have cloned this map so I got 2 pieces of "Original".
First map was normal but second one was quite unexplored. I have moved to some terrain to check whether it is updating. Well, it was but there were single dots on the map mainly in area that I currently exploring.
Next I have opened menu and select "Save and quit to title". I have closed Minecraft and opened it again. My maps seems to work from now on.

EDIT: I have attached 4 screenshots to better understand my problem, they are called:
1 - Original map - one zoom applied.jpg
2 - Clone of Original map - map is corrupted.jpg
3 - After game restart - Original map - one zoom applied.jpg
4 - After game restart - Clone of Original map - map seems to be ok.jpg
