In latest version of Minecraft, side faces of item models generated from builtin/generated will now have a quad for each pixel, while previous versions Minecraft will merge them into one quad. This heavily decreases performance on item models, especially with resource packs containing high resolution textures, as they will create much more quad on side faces of item models.
There is already some discussion in official Minecraft Feedback discord , including related vanilla code changes and how does item model looks in different Minecraft versions. I’ll provide 2 extra images too, showing vanilla bow model in 1.21.5 and 26.1.
