Normally, the maximum teleportation distance of a Chorus Fruit is 8 blocks. However, when the player is crawling under a trapdoor on the Nether ceiling, the remaining teleportation distance becomes significantly longer than intended.

This is unrelated to the trapdoor; chorus fruits often simply teleport you far below your current location. For example, if you eat one while on an End City Ship, you will be teleported to the ground below.
