Disconnecting from the network on the friends screen and exiting the game causes the JVM to crash

As described, the game freezes for a while and then triggers a JVM crash.
The crash seems to be random; I have only encountered it three times. It may be related to the status of my friends.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Open the Minecraft title screen.

2. Open the Friends page.

3. Disconnect from the network (e.g., turn off Wi-Fi).

4. Return to the title screen and exit Minecraft.
