26.2 Performance regression

OpenGL, Compared to previous versions, Minecraft Java 26.2 shows a significant performance regression.

How to reproduce:
1.Use OpenGL 1.21.11 and 26.2 play game. (preset parameters and same game configuration)
2.Create an identical world using the same seed code.
3.After teleporting to the same location, began observing the FPS.

It can be seen that in the 26.2 environment, the performance is significantly lower.

I can confirm the issue is present on my PC as well. Everything is kept the same (16 chunk render distance, 12 simulation distance, 2560x1440p at 240Hz and even the same seed and same location in the seed). I am using a desktop PC equipped with an Intel Core i7-13700F, RTX 4070 and 32GB DDR5 RAM. Even switching to Vulkan as the API doesn’t help the FPS, which fluctuates immensely. In 26.1.2, I was seeing about 149 fps on average in the same area at 95% GPU usage and in 26.2, the same area gets around 90-101 fps using 100% of the GPU.

Can confirm the same issue. Significant performance regression, especially when viewing entities in minecarts. GPU utilization sits at around 40-50% with a significant framerate drop (180fps - 80fps). All settings the same before/after updating, have re-tried 26.1.2 to confirm. This is on a desktop with an i9-10850k and RTX 3080 Ti. Problem also occurs on a separate desktop with a 9600x and 9060xt.

Notably, problem does not occur on my MacBook M4.

These are some screenshots denoting the performance downgrade on 26.2 compared to 26.1.2. Every setting is kept the same, the only difference is the version itself. I’m playing on the same part of the same seed, and on 26.1.2 I’m achieving 143fps at around 68% GPU usage. Compared to 26.2, I’m using 100% of my GPU and I’m only getting 114fps (around 30fps drop). This happens when the API is set to default or when set to OpenGL. Is this something that could be fixed with the next version drop?

Can confirm the same issue.

After consideration, the issue is being closed as Won't Fix.

Please note that this is not the same as Working as Intended, as this bug report correctly describes behavior in the game that might not be the intended or desirable behavior, but it will not be fixed right now. Sometimes, this is because the issue reported is minor and/or impossible to change without large architectural changes to the code base.
