When continuously holding the left mouse button while breaking an instant-break block (such as a torch, redstone torch, item frame, or tripwire hook), the block-breaking overlay ("crack" texture) applied to the block behind it sometimes does not clear correctly.
Instead, the crack overlay remains permanently on the block until another mining action updates it.
The issue is reproducible in a completely vanilla installation using the official Minecraft Launcher.
Steps to Reproduce:
Create or load a world.
Place a torch (or another instant-break block) on the side of a stone block.
Hold the left mouse button continuously.
The torch breaks instantly and the game immediately begins mining the stone behind it.
Release the mouse button before the stone breaks.
Expected Result:
The block-breaking overlay should disappear immediately when mining stops.
Actual Result:
The block-breaking overlay remains on the stone block.
Additional observations:
The overlay appears to preserve its mining progress.
Repeating the process continues the crack progression from its previous state instead of restarting from 0%.
If the block is eventually broken using this method, the breaking sound plays, but the block may remain visually present until the camera moves or another render update occurs.
Mining another block usually clears the stuck overlay.
The issue occurs in both an existing world and a newly created world.
What I Tested:
Official Minecraft Launcher
Completely vanilla installation (no Fabric, Forge, OptiFine, Sodium, or other mods)
Java 17
Brand new world
Existing world
VSync on/off
FPS limit changed
Reloading chunks (F3 + A)
Restarting the game
Latest Minecraft version (same behavior)
Hardware:
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 580
