Chinese IME Spams Text While Moving

Minecraft Bug Report: Chinese IME Spams Text While Moving

Minecraft Version: [e.g., 1.21.1 / 1.20.6 — fill in your version]

Platform: [Windows 10/11, macOS, Linux — fill in]

Mod Loader: [Vanilla / Fabric / Forge / NeoForge — fill in]

Mods Installed: [List or "None"]

Description

When the OS input method is switched to Chinese and kept in Chinese input mode, holding down any movement key triggers the IME and continuously spams text into the currently active text field (e.g., chat, sign, anvil, book, command block). The player can still move normally, but Chinese input text keeps getting "spat out" during movement.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Launch Minecraft and enter a world.

  2. Open any text input field (e.g., press T to open chat).

  3. Switch the OS input method to Chinese and keep it in Chinese input mode.

  4. Hold down any movement key (e.g., W, A, S, D) to keep moving.

  5. Observe that the IME is continuously triggered and text keeps being spammed into the text field (e.g., holding W produces "哇哇哇哇哇哇").

Expected Behavior

Moving should not trigger the Chinese IME, and no text should be written into the currently active text field. Holding a movement key should only control player movement.

Actual Behavior

While moving, the Chinese IME is repeatedly triggered and characters are continuously spammed into the text field, filling it with text (e.g., "哇哇哇哇哇哇"). Player movement itself works normally, which indicates that the game receives the movement keys but also incorrectly forwards them to the IME.

Additional Notes

  • The core issue is that held movement keys are still forwarded to the OS IME instead of being fully consumed by the movement controls.

  • This affects all movement keys that produce characters, not just W.

  • Tested with [IME name and version].

  • This may be related to how GLFW key repeat / char callbacks interact with IME composition on Windows.
