Pets lost when going through nether portal

This appears to effect multiple versions and snapshots. If I take my cats, or tamed wolves through nether portals while standing, they are gone when I go through the other side. I have lost four pets this way. I reproduced it by taking standing tamed pets through to the nether. They should of been there on the other side, but they were gone or erased from the game instead.
