Eye of ender to me to dud location

I followed the eye of ender to this exact floating position. to the left and right were some caves, and I dug out a massive 20x20x5 space around where the eye holds still. No stronghold or end portal. Very disappointing :( screen shot of eye floating in center of dug out area + explosion (pointing to the Y coordinate it was at)
