My son and I used to play together sharing our games from our respective computers, connected on the same LAN.
A new update came and we needed to enter the port too everytime as it continued to change by itself.
Then we saw that we could add each other as friends and connect to our respective worlds.
Then an update took that from us too.
Is there some place where the rules are well explained and do not change 2 or 3 times per year?

Joining worlds directly through the Friends list was removed in 26.2 Pre-Release 1 because the feature wasn’t ready for release:
