Poplar leaves are supposed to occasionally emit a variety of ambient sounds when they are surrounded by a non-stripped log of any kind and 3 poplar leaves of the same color in all 4 horizontal directions. While these sounds have a volume set to 4.0, they are in reality extremely quiet and subtle compared to all other ambient sounds, to the point of practically not existing and being inaudible during regular gameplay.
In my experience, I can’t hear most of the poplar leaf sounds at all even in isolation and when in-game volume is set to max (and all other sounds are loud and clear). On top of that these sounds play very infrequently, so in normal gameplay even when surrounded by poplar trees you practically can’t hear them. This seems unintentional, after all, the ambient sounds were added to be heard.
To reproduce, use default sound settings and enter a dappled forest and wait for the sounds to play (use subtitiles to tell when it happens) or just use /playsound a few times.
