I saved and quit came back about an hour later to play and my save was nonexistent. How can you play a game when your saves disappear?

since im new to the game under the pc (played plenty on the xbox) I ran the client which runs out of the browser I see no files for saves theres an output file for minecraft and an .exe file.
I'm assuming the save is on the cloud.
1.6.4 and I may say browser because tahts what it looks like and I just clicked a weblink to go there it by no means my problem is solved and if this is how we handle issues I want a refund.

I've been playing about a week saving my game and continuing on without any issue and I was using ocd resource pack fyi. It sucks cause its like 40 hours of gameplay gone. I don't want to start again really cause im worried this will just happen again.
