Glass blocks are black and opaque?

New to minecraft but I understand that glass blocks should be clear, they are black and opaque. Please advise.

Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game and attach the crash report ([minecraft|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt) here.

I'm not saying it isn't a bug, I'm just directing you to where you might be able to find information about switching your graphics. This report is currently open as it is not resolved.
