The particle animation displayed when you fall from a height is sometimes significantly bigger than it should be. To replicate this glitch:
A) go into creative mode
B) go up very high and fall for at least 50 metres (blocks) or so.
C) Stop falling right before you hit the ground by double tapping the space bar.
D) Now, go to a low height (eg. just one block above ground).
E) Drop down from this low height.
When you drop, you'll see the particle shockwave that is representative of the big fall that you had before you stopped yourself from falling, as opposed to seeing a mini shockwave from falling only for a few blocks of height.

The size of the particle splash is determined by the amount of time you've spent in the air, not the distance, speed, or acceleration. This is silly, and also affects falling damage, but currently working as intended, as far as I'm aware. Hopefully it will be fixed in the process of fixing falling damage, such as described in MC-14167.
Why has this been dismissed? (I mean no disrespect) Did you follow the steps I wrote out to see the bug I am talking about? The bug I posted is not a duplicate of this one https://mojang.atlassian.net/browse/MC-29434 , I'm commenting on the fact that the size of the shockwave is incorrect. I think it's cool that you see the animation even in creative mode, so that's not the issue i'm trying to point out.
