Map 16:1 scaling issue

Since 1.4.2, whenever I create a map, it creates a blank item with the proper map name. However, when I go to activate it, it will display an area on the map which is almost completely visible already, giving it the appearance that instead of a 1:1 ratio, it's showing a map with a 16:1 ratio (or greater). A fresh install with no texture packs running produces the same effect (though I used the same world as the old install within the new install, if that makes a difference).

Posting on the general forums has given me no feedback on how to fix this, and it wasn't addressed in the latest bug fix patch 1.4.4.

Can you please provide screenshots

Map at improper zoom...

Image attached (I believe!).

Well, that's a 1:1 zoom (1 pixel on the map = 1 block in the world).

So... what was the 'original' map zoom? Because it seems to me a map at a 1:1 ratio is fairly useless, so I guess I'm unsure why the game was adjusted to such. :/ I just need that much more paper to make a map that's actually useful like the original was?

You can zoom the maps out. Check the minecraft wiki to see how.

Yes, you can zoom them out by placing the original map as your 'compass' and putting another eight pieces of paper around it, moving it to the next level. Which I successfully did, so I suppose my issue isn't a bug at all and how the game now works. However, at second zoom level, it's still no where close to what the original map 'saw'. Is zoom level five the original map size? It just seems silly that I need like an entire stack of reeds to accomplish what the map used to be with only eight pieces of paper...

The old zoom level was 1:8.
I close this issue.
