Smoke is passing through block, that is right above source of smoke

When you have, for example, torch right under ceiling and go on floor right above it, you can see smoke going out of the floor, which is really annoying.

What I expected to happen was...:
Smoke should get stopped by solid block, that is above him.

What actually happened was...:
Smoke is going through block that is right above him, like if there was clear space and you can even see him coming from upper side of that block.

I don't think particles check to see if there is a block above them.

Well, when you mine block, particles, that are come from it, get stopped, when they hit any block.

How do you know? Wouldn't it be impossible to test that?

Marek is right about the block breaking particles, they stay on any block they touch.

It is easy to test by breaking a(for example) tree down, the particles should fall to the ground and then disappear(if the tree is close enough to the ground.

The smoke particles have done this since at least β1.7.3 (when I started playing).

Even smoke particles are stopped by blocks, but if they are generated inside a block there is no way to stop them.

what about fire particles? the smoke particles don't go through the block above, they hang on the bottom. try it out.
