What I expected to happen was: that I would not see anything except lava
What actually happened was:i saw the lava and the sun
Honestly I do not know if I am supposed to see the sun or not, But I think in real you wont see the sun in lava. And you can also see all the other stuff thats in your way.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get in the lava
2. Just look at the sun

@unknown, that would be MC-3784, which this is possibly related to.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.7.4 / Launcher version 1.3.7 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
I got a similar effect when I was looking at the cloud from below as I was climbing a ladder in the middle of a mountain - I saw the moon. (It was one of the latest snapshots - I believe it was 13w42b.)
