[MC-37729] bad packet id 4

I was trying to get on the "ravand.org" server but the bars were crossed out and had "1.6.4" next to it. When I went to log in it said "bad packet id 4".
This happened the second i updated to 1.7! please help me.

You cannot connect to a 1.6.4 server version using the 1.7 client version.

I thought so but I used the "minecraft chat"app on my phone to get on it and everyone else was on with 1.7

The server is probably using a broken plugin to achieve that. Complain to the server admin.
