Cannot send chat messages in servers

I cannot send chat messages on servers. It sometimes comes up with "Cannot send chat message" or just a blank space. Servers tried on are: Shotbow Net, Edawg878's creative server, HiveMC and SkyDoesMinecraft's server. I can send chat in single-player.
