1.4.2 Full Release Sounds Not Loading Properly

Note: The version I was using was not 1.4.2pre, there was just no option for the full release at the time of this post.

Me and my friend recently updated to the full release 1.4.2 downloaded from the launcher. When we created a new world (redstone ready), the sounds for placing and mining blocks were gone. We could hear buttons placing and breaking but didn't test any further. After about 5 minutes all the sounds came back and everything was normal. Don't know if this is happening to everyone but it happened to both me and my friend.

sounds somtimes take a while to kick in, if they dont start working after 15mins in game, then restart minecraft.

As I said, the sounds started working after about 5 mins.

Chris

oh ok, this isnt a bug, it downloads the sound files i belive, thats why they take a while to come in. 🙂

Joshua Pirie

Wouldn't it download the sound files when its updating? Just seems a little weird for them to be downloaded and come in mid-game.

Chris

im not sure, thats what i always thought tho, all i know is that its been doing it since Beta stage somtimes its almost instant other times its not

I've experienced the delay in the initial loading of sounds, though attributed it to my venerable old system being taxed a bit more with each new release. However, with 1.25+ in addition to pronounced lag I'm also experiencing a reverb effect where the same sound is repeated over and over. Quite annoying when you have a room full of villagers opening and closing doors all over the place 😞

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Rick Wisckol

Yes, very much a concern. It appears a sound queue (or something) gets backed up (lagged) on a regular basis, then dumps out the backlogged sounds all at once. At times, I've cleared 20+ blocks in a soundless vacuum, then get a massive compressed bit of effects and it's all caught up for a bit.

Resolving this ticket since not a bug.
New sounds are downloaded while in game and not while updating the game.
